Leupold’s® VX®-6 Gets FireDot™ Illumination

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Leupold® has added the FireDot™ illumination system to its premier riflescope for hunters, the VX®-6.

The FireDot system leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple. It has a one-button, low-profile design that offers a choice of 12 different reticle brightness settings. Proprietary Motion Sensor Technology (MST™) automatically deactivates illumination after five minutes of inactivity, but reactivates immediately when any movement is detected.

Specific illuminated reticle options for the VX-6 1-6x24mm magnification include Illuminated Duplex®, Illuminated Circle Dot Post and Illuminated German #4 Dot. Options for the 2-12x42mm magnification are Illuminated Duplex, Illuminated LR Duplex® and Illuminated German #4 Dot.

VX-6 also features a powerful 6:1 zoom ratio. Compared to standard riflescopes, VX-6 provides a wider field of view at the lowest power setting, giving hunters a better look at close, fast-moving game. At the highest power setting, the scope pulls distant targets in tighter for more precise shot placement. Unlike many higher power scopes that deliver their best sight picture only at each end of the zoom ratio, VX-6 is engineered to deliver exceptional image quality from edge-to-edge of the visual field at any magnification.

"VX-6 is as good as it gets," said Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. "FireDot illumination is ideal for low-light conditions typical of the most demanding hunts."

Another key feature is the Quantum Optical System™ which includes lead-free, precision-ground and edge blackened lenses with Leupold's Xtended Twilight lens coatings for the highest level of light transmission and clarity. Carefully positioned in optimum relationship to each other, the lenses deliver up to 98 percent total light transmission. Exterior lens surfaces are coated with DiamondCoat 2™ for unsurpassed resistance to scratching and abrasion.

VX-6 has pop-up, re-zeroable finger click adjustments (¼-MOA or one cm depending on model) for windage and elevation that can be converted to Leupold's Custom Dial System (CDS®). With CDS, hunters can get on target at any range, with any load, by matching their scopes to the ballistics of their ammunition and sight-in conditions. Each scope comes with one free CDS dial.

In addition, VX-6 has a generous eyebox and long eye relief, making it quick and easy for hunters to get their eye behind the riflescope and attain a full, clear sight picture. Compared to competitive riflescopes, the VX-6's eyebox is up to 137 percent larger at the high power ranges, and up to 67 percent larger at the low power ranges. This provides exceptional flexibility when setting up for longer shots at high power, as well as the quick target acquisition required for close-up big game or dangerous game situations.

Other key features:

Leupold's most durable Twin Bias Spring Erector System™ provides the utmost in mechanical reliability. It is built with up to 30 percent more holding force than competitive riflescopes to withstand the most intense recoil and abuse.

Extreme fast-focus eyepiece allows smooth, fast and precise focus adjustment for users of different visual acuity, from nearsighted to farsighted.

Second generation Argon/Krypton waterproofing and fog proofing. Enhanced thermal shock resistance.

VX-6 riflescopes have a rugged 30mm matte black maintube. Sporting Leupold's familiar Golden Ring®, VX-6 is backed by the company's Full Lifetime Guarantee. For more information, visit a local dealer, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-800-LEUPOLD.

Leupold Tactical Optics Saluted at Sniper Competition

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Team Leupold congratulates all participants in the 2011 International Sniper Competition held Sept. 26-30 in Ft. Benning, Ga.

The competition gave the world's best snipers a place to meet and put their skills to the test on a level playing field. As an event sponsor, Leupold® Tactical provided competitors with its next-generation Mark 4® ER/T® 6.5-20x50mm M5A, which is part of the M2010 Sniper Weapon System.

"It was a privilege to be part of the International Sniper Competition and demonstrate the commitment Leupold Tactical has made to developing new optics for military and law enforcement professionals," commented Kevin Trepa, vice president of Leupold Tactical Division.

Leupold engineers and product specialists were on site to oversee all technical details of the optics in use.

"Our objective was to observe our optics used firsthand by the sniper community and get feedback," said Ray Brock, Leupold Tactical product line manager. "The Mark 4 M5A was well received and the snipers were excited to see new developments in optics that meet their needs."

A total of 32 two-man teams from around the world participated in the competition. Approximately 25 teams used the Mark 4 M5A as their riflescope of choice. They had the opportunity to purchase the Leupold scopes used in the competition.

"The scopes were well received," said Chris Estadt, military business development director for Leupold Tactical. "The shooters were amazed at how clear the glass was and the functionality of the new feature sets. We are looking forward to their continued feedback."

Leupold’s® New VX-R™ Patrol Illuminated Riflescope

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Leupold's® new VX-R™ Patrol riflescope features proprietary powered fiber optic technology in an exclusive FireDot™ reticle to provide law enforcement, military and other tactical shooters with exceptional target acquisition, in the bright light of day as well as the low light of dawn or dusk.

The VX-R Patrol is available in a 1.25-4x20mm model with the FireDot Special Purpose Reticle (SPR®) and a 3-9x40mm model with the FireDot Tactical Milling Reticle® (TMR®).

"Our new VX-R Patrol riflescope offers true daylight-capable illumination and long battery life, along with a sleek design that reduces bulk atop the rifle," commented Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. "It is an extremely versatile scope that can handle a wide range of tactical situations and conditions."

The VX-R Patrol has a single push button illumination system with Leupold's own Motion Sensor Technology (MST™). A touch of the button illuminates the dot within the reticle. By repeatedly pressing the button, the user can select between eight different intensity settings including a high-low indicator, which flashes when either the maximum or minimum intensity is reached. After five minutes of inactivity, the illumination system automatically switches to stand-by mode, but reactivates at the same intensity setting whenever the rifle is moved. This helps extend battery life and, by reducing movement, allows the shooter to maintain greater stealth in the field.

In addition, the FireDot reticle in the VX-R Patrol has a fiber optic light pipe with a precisely cut and meticulously polished tip designed to deliver an illuminated dot that can be easily seen in bright light, yet is not overpowering in low-light conditions. Once activated, the dot illuminates with bright, sharp definition, while the rest of the reticle remains non-illuminated. This combination leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple.

The FireDot SPR is designed for instinctive, close-range/low-magnification situations, yet allows shooters to engage targets with greater precision at longer ranges than generally possible with other reticle styles. Expanding on existing Mil Dot reticles, the FireDot TMR offers increased ranging precision and accuracy.

Other key features of the VX-R Patrol:

Rugged 30mm matte black maintube

Leupold's Index Matched Lens System®, which maximizes light transmission to produce an extremely bright, sharp image across the visual field

Blackened lens edges for enhanced light transmission, clarity and contrast

DiamondCoat™, an ion-assisted lens coating for optimal light management and maximum abrasion resistance

One-turn, non-locking eyepiece to provide smooth, fast and precise focus adjustment for users of different visual acuity, from nearsighted to farsighted

Precision finger click adjustments for windage and elevation (1/4-MOA)

Leupold's most durable twin bias spring erector system

Second generation Argon/Krypton waterproofing for enhanced resistance to thermal shock

CR-2032 coin cell battery, readily available around the country

The VX-R Patrol is backed by Leupold's Full Lifetime Guarantee. The VX-R 3-9x40mm riflescope is the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence 2011 Optic of the Year. For more information visit a local dealer, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-800-LEUPOLD.
